Steven G. Freers has been in private practice since November of 1974. He started his career with Koory & Freers and practiced there until June of 1980. From June of 1980 through November of 1998, he was a partner in Binkowski and Freers. Since then, he has been in private practice until the addition of his two daughters, Dana Freers and Erin Freers-Cole in the current association of Freers Freers & Freers.
Mr. Freers was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 8, 1949; he has been married for 46-years to Christine and has four children and six grandchildren.
Mr. Freers has been involved in all aspects of general practice litigation from discovery through trial. He has handled criminal defense cases, and he is on the court appointed A-list handling the most difficult capital cases. He also handles probate, general/civil, business, real estate, collections and estate planning. Mr. Freers has represented a wide-variety of business clients from small, locally owned family businesses to multi-national corporations. In addition, as a part of his criminal practice, Mr. Freers has handled cases from civil infractions, simple and complex misdemeanors, simple and complex felonies, including defending murder charges. He has handled several high publicity cases in his career and tried cases in nearly every court in the State.
Mr. Freers is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Masters Section of the State Bar of Michigan, Macomb County Bar Association, and a member of the Macomb County Criminal Law Committee.
His extracurricular activities include being secretary for the Warren-Sterling Heights Elks Building Corporation since 1980; he is a curriculum advisor for the Criminal Justice program at ITT Technical Institute; he has been involved in coaching and sponsoring of his son’s soccer and basketball teams. He has worked with the Boy Scouts as an advancement sponsor. In addition, he serves as a case evaluator in Macomb County; he has given a seminar presentation through the Macomb County Bar Association; and has served as a Judge in the Macomb County Mock Trial competition. Mr. Freers has also written some articles that were published in the Macomb County Bar Briefs on the issues of aiding and abetting felony firearm, and avoiding the use of privilege in criminal cases.
Mr. Freers has long been a member of ARAG, a pre-paid legal plan and has represented many clients under that plan.
He has been admitted to the Michigan Bar Association and the Eastern District of the United States District Court since 1974.
